Anthony and Chelsea met at the Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown in New Orleans in 2009. They became fast friends and found that their dancing styles were well-suited! After a weekend visit in Chicago two weeks later, they didn’t dance together again until last year’s Heartland, where they won the Collegiate Jitterbug Championship. Their personalities are clearly seen in their fun and creative dancing. They are very excited to work together again and share their love of Lindy Hop! Chelsea fell into swing by chance her first year at Purdue in 2003. After attending the Chicago exchange with about 3 lessons in Lindy Hop behind her, it was clear she’d be dancing this dance the rest of her life, and never looked back. Since then she has honed her skills and expanded her dancing creativity by traveling to all the exchanges and workshops she could get to. She helped spread Lindy Hop throughout Purdue and taught classes there for a couple years. She then went on to teach classes at the Galaxie in Chicago. She loves the freedom of Lindy Hop and the personal expression it allows. She believes one’s dancing should always be fun, happy and an expression of who they are. Anthony started his dance training in 2002 when his best friend’s sister’s boyfriend introduced him to breakdancing at a speech and debate tournament. In an equally arbitrary and geeky happenstance he stumbled upon his local swing community and fell in love with lindy hop shortly thereafter. He also has experience in hip-hop, Argentine Tango, tap, and several other vernacular jazz dances, and he enjoys improving his technique and creativity through drawing upon these different styles. On the social dance floor, he is known to be playful, musical, creative, and clear—a "feel-good" dancer. He holds a number of national competition titles, including 3rd place in the Open Strictly Lindy at the 2010 International Lindy Hop Championships and 1st place in the choreography division of the 2009 Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown in New Orleans with his team, the “Groove Juice Special.” He also took down the 2011 Collegiate Jitterbug Championships Same-Gender Strictly, enthralling the audience with his unparalleled swivels, most notably because there is nothing on him to swivel. Anthony began teaching in Albuquerque in 2006 and has since taught several classes and workshops around the country as well. His teaching style focuses on energy, technique and connection theory, as well as styling drawn from a myriad of different dances. His love of both leading and following has been instrumental to making the classes that he teaches both clear and intuitive, and he prides himself in being able to provide many of those valuable “a-ha” moments to his students. |
